Nothing wasted, everything gained.
All logs are sourced from local, sustainably managed radiata pine plantation forests. In addition to logs from SRS forests, the major suppliers are Rayonier/Matariki, Forest Management Ltd, Laurie Forestry Ltd and Trans Tasman Forestry.
Every year in New Zealand more radiata pine trees are planted than harvested ensuring long-term growth and viability for the industry.
Bark is removed prior to milling and sold for use in gardens and mulch. Chip from the mill is sold for the manufacture of MDF. Sawdust from the sawmill provides boiler fuel for kiln drying and 98% of electricity in the South Island is produced by hydro electricity. This means virtually all the energy for milling and kiln drying operations is provided from renewable resources.
All dried timber is completely chemical free. By ensuring all timber is kiln dried within 5 days of production there is no need for anti sap stain chemicals or other treatments.

Sustainable Sources
All logs are sourced from replanted plantation forests. Every year, a greater area is planted than harvested. This ensures New Zealand has a sustainable growth of forestry.

Efficient Energy
The SRS kilns are powered by the heat from our own super efficient boiler, fulled by the sawdust waste from our logs as they are processed.
Nothing Wasted
Every part of the log is used, either as timber, fuel, landscaping mulch, or used in the manufacture of MDF.
Smarter Treating
No timber is treated at SRS. Kiln drying timber meets the internationally recognised ISPN15 heat treating requirements, allowing it to be chemical free.
Reduced Emissions
SRS have invested in a fleet of six electric forklifts to reduce our emissions and have a cleaner, quieter work environment.
FFNZ
FFNZ has been established with the principle purpose of providing assured, sustainable log supply to our domestic sawmills. We strongly believe that there are much greater benefits for New Zealand if our home grown logs are milled domestically such as environmental factors, generating employment, and substantial economic gain for New Zealand.
Working Smarter
Boiler Fueled Kilns
Our wood fueled boiler means all energy for heating the kilns is 100% renewable. The high efficiency furnace and recycling of ash ensures any emissions are well below environmental regulations.
Electric Forklifts
We’re proud to have now added six electric forklifts to our fleet. Quiet, clean and using renewably sourced energy, these forklifts are giving us, and our pallets, a lift up.
Power Optimisation
The installation of power factor correction and high efficiency motors has improved our electric power efficiency to greater than 98%. This reduces our total power consumption by more than 10%.
